SEOUL, July 17 (Korea Bizwire)NHN Entertainment, a renowned mobile game publisher, is transforming itself into a composite IT service company by introducing Internet of Things products as well as a payment solution.

On July 16, NHN Entertainment introduced a cloud-based IP camera called TOAST Cam. With its cloud technology sending images to data centers automatically, it allows users to view previous images recorded over the previous 365 days with enhanced security. The IP camera is the first hardware product developed by the company.

An official at NHN Entertainment said, “Now, the Internet of Things era is beginning with the harmonizing of products and platforms. We recognized the growth potential of IP cameras.”

NHN Entertainment expected that the cloud industry using these products would form an important axis in the IoT industry. With that expectation, it began developing the IP camera together with Truen, a Korean camera manufacturer, two years ago.

The NHN Entertainment official said, “We introduced TOAST Cam in order to keep pace with the industry trend of making platforms at the center, and to pave the way for IoT business. In the ever-changing IT environment, we will be an IT service company by growing our competitiveness.”

Currently, the company is constructing a data center in Pangyo, on the southern outskirts of Seoul, which will be the core base for its IoT and cloud businesses. It is expected to begin operating no later than this September.

Meanwhile, NHN Entertainment plans to launch its PAYCO money settlement service in August. The service enables users to pay at on and offline stores with an ID and password. It has entered into partnerships with nine credit card companies, accepting virtually all credit cards in Korea.
