SEOUL, Mar. 20 (Korea Bizwire)Tago Solutions, a local taxi franchise, said Wednesday that it has joined hands with tech giant Kakao Corp. to launch a new cab-hailing platform that guarantees rides.

The new service, Waygo Blue, is designed to keep drivers from refusing riders who are traveling short distances, as the customer’s destination is not provided to drivers at first, the company said.

The local taxi industry has faced criticism as drivers often refuse to pick up passengers depending on their arrival destination.

The new service will be available on Kakao T platform, operated by Kakao Mobility, an affiliate of the country’s dominant mobile messenger operator, Kakao.

Customers need to pay 3,000 won in addition to the regular taxi fare, company officials said.

Tago Solutions said it will also adopt a new wage system for its drivers, who will receive an average monthly salary of around 2.6 million won (US$2,300) for 52 hours of work per week.

Most conventional local taxi drivers have to pay a certain portion of their daily earnings to taxi operators.
