SEOUL, March 29 (Korea Bizwire) — The value of assets held by non-metropolitan areas households is about 40 percent lower than that of metropolitan area households, a lawmaker said Monday, citing data from Statistics Korea.
The aggregate value of assets held by the nation’s households amounted to 10.3 quadrillion won (US$8.21 trillion), according to the data released by Rep. Kim Hoi-jae of the ruling Democratic Party.
Of the total, the value of assets held by the greater Seoul area households stood at 6.3 quadrillion won, or 61.2 percent of the total.
In contrast, the amount of assets held by the more than 10.5 million households residing in non-capital areas remained comparatively low at 4 quadrillion won.
The value of assets held by the greater Seoul area households averaged 630 million won, higher than 380 million won for non-metropolitan area households.
In addition to household assets, higher incomes are also concentrated in metropolitan areas.
The current aggregate income of metropolitan area households stood at 672.4 trillion won, more than half of the total current income of all of the nation’s households, estimated at 1.36 quadrillion won.
The current income of non-metropolitan area households was estimated at 584.2 trillion won.
