SEOUL, Nov. 1 (Korea Bizwire) – North Korea is aggressively registering its trademarks amid its leader Kim Jong-un’s repeated order to produce “world-class” consumer products, a U.S. broadcaster said Wednesday.

The North recently registered three trademarks with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), including those of the Ryukyung Kimchi Factory and the Pyongyang Bag Factory, Radio Free Asia said.

In June last year, the Pyongyang Cosmetics Factory registered its brand Unhasu with WIPO.

During an inspection of the makeup factory last week, Kim called on it to produce more cosmetics of “good quality with world competitive power.”

Other WIPO-registered North Korean trademarks include Mirae of the Myohyang Cosmetics Factory, Maebongsan of the Wonsan Shoes Factory and Taedonggang of the Taedonggang Fruits Processing Factory, according to the broadcaster.

The North’s moves are seen as efforts to imprint the international competitiveness of North Korean products on its people, the broadcaster said.

The regime also emphasizes that its brand names contain ideological and cultural value, the broadcaster added.
