SEOUL, Jan. 27 (Korea Bizwire)The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said Wednesday it will earmark a budget of 38.1 billion won (US$31.6 million) over the next five years for a ‘marine space digital twin application and utilization technology development’ project as part of efforts to predict the damage that could arise from climate change.

Digital twin refers to the process of duplicating a virtual model to accurately reflect a physical object. This technology allows real-time monitoring of physical objects, while enabling predictions on the impact such objects would have on the environment.

The ministry plans to develop a 4D data model by upgrading the current 3D digital twin technology, as well as duplicating the ever-changing sea as a digital space through modeling.

In the digital space, a variety of sea activities, including marine development and fisheries, will be scientifically diagnosed through simulation experiments.

Moreover, the ministry plans to create information for the prediction of coastal disasters that can happen due to marine phenomena such as sea currents and tide, while developing a policy simulator for the dimensional expression of experimental results that can be used easily by policymakers and interested parties.
