SEOUL, Dec.15 (Korea Bizwire)It has been reported that three out of ten office workers don’t have the opportunity to exercise at their workplace.

According to a survey conducted by employment portal Incruit and the Korea Research Institute for Health Promotion on 663 workers over the age of 20, 36 percent answered that they can’t stretch nor do light exercises like walking during working hours.

Most of them were aware of the way others saw them, and 35 percent answered that they weren’t able to exercise during working hours because ‘people might think I have nothing to do’ or ‘they might think I’m slacking off’.

‘The office is too small’ ranked second (25 percent), followed by ‘personal reasons such as being busy, or not feeling the need (23 percent)’.

Among the respondents who answered that they sometimes exercise in the office, 17 percent replied that they have felt a certain pressure or criticism from others.

In the meantime, 77 of the respondents answered that to act out their plan exercise, the support and cooperation of colleagues at the office is a must. Small things such as ‘going home when work hours are over’ and ‘exercising together during lunchtime’ were mentioned.

Officials from the Korea Research Institute for Health Promotion emphasized that it is impossible to create a healthy work environment when employees cannot exercise freely. They suggest that each team take a stretching break, or go for a walk together.
