GANGNEUNG, Jan. 24 (Korea Bizwire) — For the greater convenience of tourists planning on staying in or around Gangneung, the city near PyeongChang where the 2018 Winter Olympics are scheduled to be held starting early February, lodgings businesses have placed QR codes in rooms that reveal detailed information in a handful of languages when accessed via a smartphone.
Gangneung’s city government announced on January 23 that 9,000 rooms at 700 hotels, motels and other lodgings businesses now have one of these QR codes.
Scanning a QR code will pop open the company’s website, which the customer will be able to use to check for details regarding the Olympics, tour information about Gangneung and public transportation schedules.
Additional services accessible through the website are food delivery, signing up for tours and calling for a cab, activities typically difficult for foreigners who don’t speak Korean.
The website is available in Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese and Taiwanese Mandarin.
