SEOUL, April 24 (Korea Bizwire) – Orion Corporation announced on April 24 that its popular “Turtle Chips” snack has recently gained entry into the Five Below and Miniso retail chains across the United States, driven by its rising popularity among younger American consumers.
The quadruple-layered corn snack became the first K-food product to be stocked at all 1,598 Five Below stores nationwide last month. It is also now available at 52 Miniso lifestyle discount stores.
Beginning this year, Turtle Chips are also being supplied to employee snack bars at tech giants Google and Netflix.
Following its success at Costco and Sam’s Club in North America, the expansion into new retail channels is expected to boost Orion’s North American sales of Turtle Chips to around $16 million this year.
In 2022, the product’s U.S. export sales amounted to approximately $9.5 million.
American consumers can currently find nine flavors of Turtle Chips on shelves, including corn soup, spicy, savory, seaweed, chocolate churros, sour cream and onion, truffle salt, crunchy cheese, and mala.
Orion plans to introduce the snack to Costco stores in Mexico during the first half of 2024 as well.
If annual sales of the single Turtle Chips product surpass $32 million in the U.S., the company is considering establishing a local production facility.
Launched in 2017, Turtle Chips are now sold in 23 countries, including Australia, the U.K., and Japan, while being locally manufactured in markets like China, Vietnam, and India.
As of last month, the global accumulated sales of Turtle Chips exceeded $380 million, solidifying its position as a global snack brand following in the footsteps of Orion’s iconic “Choco Pie.”
