SEOUL, Dec. 28 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul Metropolitan Government said Tuesday that otters, a level 1 endangered species and a natural monument, currently live in the Han River.
The habitats of 15 otters have recently been found in the Han River, Tan Stream, Jungnang Stream and Saet River by Yeouido Island, according to the city government.
There had been no official reports of otter sightings since the construction of the Paldang Dam near Seoul in 1974, which severed them from the region, until 2016 when a local resident found them swimming in the Tan Stream.
In 2017, unmanned cameras discovered four more otters in the region, after which otters have been found regularly.
