SEOUL, Aug. 8 (Korea Bizwire)PASS, an identity authentication app provided by South Korea’s three mobile carriers, now enables passengers to board domestic flights without the need for a physical ID card or a boarding pass.

The three telecom operators — SK Telecom Co., KT Corp. and LG Uplus Corp. — and the Korea Airports Corp. announced on Monday that they will launch the PASS Smart Ticket service, allowing passengers to authenticate their ID cards and boarding tickets through the PASS app.

Upon completing the check-in process, customers who have previously registered their mobile ID on the PASS app will receive QR codes for boarding.

From check-in and identification to purchasing duty-free products and boarding the aircraft, the QR code serves the same purpose as a traditional paper boarding pass.

The PASS Smart Ticket can currently be used for domestic flights operated by four low-cost carriers — Jeju Air, T’way Air, Hi Air, and Easter Jet. Later this month, Air Seoul will also be included in the service.
