SEOUL, June 29 (Korea Bizwire)The Korean Intellectual Property Office on Wednesday unveiled a series of measures to address the increasing damages faced by domestic companies due to technology theft and leaks.

These measures aim to strengthen the roles of the patent office’s administrative investigation, dispute mediation, and collaboration with technology police, with the goal of ensuring swift damage relief.

To promote a streamlined dispute resolution system, the patent office will establish the Comprehensive Support Center for Resolution of Disputes over Industrial Property.

This center will comprehensively manage and support dispute mediation, administrative investigations, and technology police investigations.

Additionally, the office will review the possibility of creating an Industrial Property Dispute Medication Center through the enactment of relevant laws, taking into account the mid- and long-term perspectives.

Furthermore, the duration of administrative investigations will be reduced from 11 months to six months through the implementation of a rapid investigation system that prioritizes cases of idea theft.

By April next year, the Sentencing Commission plans to revise the sentencing guidelines for crimes related to intellectual property rights (IPR).

Moreover, an evidence production procedure known as “discovery” will be introduced to facilitate the collection of evidence for affected businesses.

This procedure will allow court-designated professionals to directly investigate evidence at the site of technology infringement.
