Pet-related Consumption on the Rise, Led by Antibiotic-free Snacks

SEOUL, July 8 (Korea Bizwire)Market Kurly, a rapidly growing online grocery delivery platform, announced on Tuesday that its analysis of companion animal-related consumption for the first half of this year showed that sales of antibiotic-free snacks rose sharply.

At Market Kurly, antibiotic-free jerky made of the tenderloin of home-grown duck meat topped the list of sales growth in the first half of this year among companion animal-related products.

The first half sales of the antibiotic-free jerky marked a 244 percent growth compared to a year ago.

Following antibiotic-free jerky were other antibiotic-free snacks such as boneless duck meat and chicken breast meat.

Eight types of antibiotic-free snacks accounted for 9 percent of the total sales of 630 companion animal-related products at Market Kurly.

Snacks with abundant nutrition also enjoyed strong popularity in the first half of this year.

A snack made by mixing lotus root with duck meat and home-made gum made by mixing pollack with duck meat ranked no. 4 and no. 5 on the list of top sellers.

Sales of vegetable and fruit-type snacks using eco-friendly organic ingredients such as carrot, pumpkin, blueberry and kale registered robust growth of 927 percent in the first half of this year compared to a year ago.

Market Kurly added that the first-half sales of companion animal-related products rose by 124 percent year on year, with a monthly growth rate of 12 percent.
