SEOUL, Dec. 22 (Korea Bizwire)A live performance album by South Korean pianist Lim Yunchan has been included on The New York Times’ Best Classical Music Albums of 2023 list.

“Yoonchan Lim-Liszt: Transcendental Etudes” was one of the top 25 albums of the year announced by the U.S. daily Thursday (U.S. time).

Released in June, the album carries Lim’s performance during the semifinals of the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition last year, where he became the youngest winner in the competition’s history.

“He is already so mind-bogglingly accomplished technically, and so refined musically, that these formidable works sound easy,” the newspaper said, noting he was just 18 at that time.

Citing him as having said he would like to be a musician “with infinite possibilities,” it added, “So he would appear to be.”
