SEOUL, April 23 (Korea Bizwire) – Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon met with Tunisian Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui in Seoul on Monday and discussed ways to strengthen substantial cooperation between the two countries, Lee’s office said.
Jhinaoui was on a visit to South Korea, leading Tunisia’s delegation to a meeting of the South Korean-Tunisian Joint Commission formed to enhance bilateral cooperation. This week’s talks were the commission’s first meeting in 10 years.
During the meeting with Jhinaoui, Lee noted that Tunisia successfully realized democratization of the country and has since been focusing on economic development. Lee also said that the South is willing to participate in efforts to develop Tunisia’s economy.
Jhinaoui said that his country is pushing ahead with massive economic restructuring and expressed hope for more South Korean companies to expand to the African nation in such areas as information technology, agriculture and infrastructure construction.
Lee briefed Jhinaoui on recent developments on the Korean Peninsula, such as the conciliatory mood between the two Koreas, and asked for Tunisia’s continued support for Seoul’s efforts to bring peace on the divided peninsula.
Jhinaoui said that Tunisia supports for Seoul’s peace efforts and said he looks forward to good results from the inter-Korean summit set for later this week.
Jhinaoui also invited Lee to visit the country at an early date, and Lee expressed his gratitude for the invitation, the office said.
