POHANG, Jul. 3 (Korea Bizwire)The city of Pohang has delivered its first baby identity card to a couple whose child was born one month ago.

The baby identity cards have nothing to do with official identity cards for Koreans over 16 years old (17 in Korean age), and are unique to Pohang.

The city is issuing baby identity cards to celebrate mothers and fathers with newborn babies.

The two Pohang citizens who recently registered their son’s birth were given the baby identity card by Lee Kang-Duk, the mayor of Pohang, on July 2 at Daei-dong Community Service Center.

Although the baby identity card has no legal significance, it is expected to be useful in everyday life as it carries the baby’s health information such as blood type, weight and height, and other information such as addresses and phone numbers for the baby’s parents.

Anyone with a newborn can request a card at community service centers and town offices. Lee Kang-Duk said that the baby identity card service will be a good present for those who would like to cherish memories of their children.
