SEOUL, Aug. 15 (Korea Bizwire) – In a bold move amid growing concerns over electric vehicle safety, Swedish automaker Polestar has introduced its latest model to the South Korean market.

The company is leveraging its spotless safety record to distinguish itself from competitors, particularly in light of a recent fire involving a Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle in Incheon.

Polestar executives were quick to highlight that despite selling 160,000 vehicles worldwide, the company has yet to record a single fire incident.

This statistic stands in stark contrast to recent events that have shaken consumer confidence in the electric vehicle market.

The newly unveiled Polestar 4, an electric SUV coupe, marks the company’s second offering in South Korea.

The vehicle showcases an innovative design that eliminates the rear window, a feature made possible through Polestar’s engineering prowess.

This allows for a sleek coupe silhouette while maintaining spacious rear seating.

In a competitive pricing strategy, Polestar has set the starting price for the long-range single-motor version (including the Pilot Pack) at 66.9 million won, with the long-range dual-motor variant priced at 71.9 million won.

These figures represent the lowest price points among the 26 countries where the vehicle will be sold, undercutting prices in major North American and European markets by over 30 million won.

Orders for the Polestar 4 are now being accepted, with deliveries scheduled to begin in October. Initial shipments will be produced in China and equipped with a 100kWh nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) battery manufactured by Chinese company CATL.

Looking ahead, Polestar plans to shift production of the Polestar 4 to Busan, South Korea, in the latter half of 2025.

The company has hinted at the possibility of using domestically produced batteries in these locally manufactured models, although pricing is expected to remain consistent with the Chinese-made versions.

The Polestar 4 boasts impressive performance metrics, with the long-range dual-motor version capable of producing 544 horsepower (400kW) and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

The single-motor variant offers 272 horsepower (200kW). Driving ranges are estimated at 590km and 620km respectively, based on European standards.

One of the most striking features of the Polestar 4 is the absence of a rear window.

Instead, the vehicle relies on a rear-view camera system that transmits road information to an interior mirror, maintaining driver visibility without compromising the vehicle’s unique design.
