BUSAN, June 2 (Korea Bizwire)Police said Tuesday they have arrested a group of individuals who illegally made and sold guns by smuggling components from overseas.

This case proves that it’s possible to make illegal guns anytime even in South Korea, where firearm regulations are strict.

According to the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency’s Major Crime Investigation Division, a man in his 40s was booked and six men were booked without detention.

They are charged with illegally making and selling finished rifles and guns by smuggling components from American firearm sites. They assembled gun parts by watching videos on YouTube.

The firearms they made are so-called ‘ghost guns,’ a term used to describe unregulated firearms that are typically purchased online and then assembled at home.

The illegally-assembled guns have no serial numbers and are difficult to trace and detect since they are made of materials that are hardly detectable by metal detectors.

The U.S. administration of President Joe Biden is seeking to regulate ghost guns, which have been used in a number of mass shootings in the country including the Virginia Tech shooting in 2007.

The police confiscated a total of 32 firearms including five shotguns, one rifle and 26 simulated guns.
