SEOUL, Sept. 3 (Korea Bizwire) — A new alcohol detector will be introduced to catch drunk drivers opening car windows to ventilate the car before taking a DUI test.
The National Police Agency developed a new breathalyzer optimized for the current pandemic, distributing 1,500 of the devices to all police agencies nationwide.
The police developed a contactless breathalyzer last year to prevent the spread of the coronavirus that can detect and analyze breath from 30 centimeters away.
The shortcoming of these detectors, however, was that they would drop in accuracy if drivers ventilated the car beforehand.
The newly developed breathalyzers are capable of both contactless and contact detection, with heightened accuracy thanks to air intake motors.
