SEOUL, Oct. 13 (Korea Bizwire)Police has decided to introduce a qualification exam for fingerprint appraisers aimed at improving the reliability of fingerprint analysis results.

The National Police Agency plans to hold the first qualification exam for fingerprint appraisers on Saturday.

After forming an examination board with a group of technological specialists in fingerprint appraisal, the agency will select a set of questions that can evaluate both theory and the actual application of fingerprint appraisal technology.

A string of practical application-type questions will be presented, including ones that offer the fingerprints of ten fingers for multiple suspects and ask examinees to identify the criminal for each question.

At present, a variety of fingerprint technologies are used in criminal investigation, including automatic fingerprint search systems, image amplification systems and fingerprint blind tests.

Despite the evolution of technology in scientific investigation, the appraisal of fingerprints still remains the most important evidence in identifying the identity of those related to criminal acts, including the offenders themselves, while playing a big role in solving cases.
