SEOUL, Dec. 28 (Korea Bizwire)The National Police Agency announced on Monday that it will introduce a new service to enable the location and situation of those making 112 (the emergency police telephone number) calls via smartphones to be verified in video format in real time.

If callers click on a link included in a text message sent from a 112 emergency call center, their current location and the situation taken by their smartphone camera will be sent in video format in real time to the operators in the center.

Without the need to make a location-based service request, this service enables operators in a emergency call center to check the accurate location of those making emergency calls, as well as to control their smartphone camera remotely.

The videos and messages received by the emergency call center are delivered to police officers on site in a file format, enabling them to view the content via a smartphone or tablet.

The police stressed that in criminal and disaster incidents or situations in which callers don’t know their location or cannot speak, the new service is expected to contribute to understanding their actual circumstances more quickly and accurately.
