SEOUL, March 2 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea’s National Police Agency (NPA) has launched a one-month trial operation of pre-crime analysis system (Pre-CAS), an artificial intelligence (AI) system to analyze and predict the risk of crime, at three regional police agencies starting from Tuesday.

Pre-CAS uses AI technology to predict the risk of crime after analyzing public data such as population and weather, as well as police data, including that related to crime, 112 (emergency police telephone number) calls and anti-crime facilities.

The NPA expects the system to contribute to anti-crime activities, particularly in areas where the risk of crime is high.

The system indicates the risk of crime at an interval of two hours by dividing the degree of risk into 10 grades ranging from 1 to 10 per for each 100 meter by 100 meter section of a grid.

Information on high-risk areas and locations is automatically provided to the navigation systems in patrol cars.

After addressing the problems that could arise during the trial operation period, the NPA plans to expand the application of the system throughout the country starting from next month.
