SEOUL, Oct. 27 (Korea Bizwire)Police said Tuesday it will introduce number plates for the exclusive use of police vehicles next month that will allow automatic access to unmanned apartment complex entrances for a faster response.

The National Police Agency joined hands with relevant departments to revise notifications by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport last February, adding the numbers 998 or 999 to number plates of emergency vehicles.

Once the follow-up measures take place on Nov. 1, police vehicles will be able to automatically access gates that lead to apartment complexes, commercial buildings, and public parking lots without having to stop the car.

These exclusive number plates will be distributed to 6,532 police vehicles used for patrol, traffic control, accident investigation, detective patrol, scientific investigation, and transport.

The agency expects that this new measure will ensure a faster emergency response, resolve the inconvenience of having to reissue new plate numbers when replacing vehicles, and absolve officers of having to pay parking fees.
