SEOUL, Sept. 22 (Korea Bizwire)The National Police Agency said Wednesday it will introduce intelligent CCTV cameras to prevent unlawful intrusion by outsiders in October.

The intelligent CCTV cameras will send notices of outsiders’ unlawful intrusion to the smartphones of the victims or emergency dispatch centers in real time.

The cameras will recognize outsiders by comparing their faces with the pre-stored images of the victims.

The cameras also can detect situations when outsiders wander around a house or commit violence against victims.

The new cameras will be installed primarily for those who are vulnerable to retaliatory crimes, including stalking. To this end, the police will also introduce a new system connected with smartwatches.

“We’re now developing a new system in which alarms are sent instantly from intelligent CCTV cameras to smartwatches. In an emergency situation, smartwatches would enable users to notice the alarm and report it instantly,” said an official at the National Police Agency.

To improve the accuracy of the service, police is also advancing facial recognition and illegal intrusion sensing technologies in collaboration with the Korea Internet & Security Agency, a state-run cybersecurity body.

Police plans to launch a trial operation for a month starting this month, testing the detection of intrusion by installing intelligent CCTV cameras at eight gates and yards in apartments and detached houses.
