SEOUL, Dec. 18 (Korea Bizwire) – The popular Hong Kong film “Infernal Affairs” will be recreated as an original musical in Korea, a production company said Monday.

Shin’s Wave said it has bought the rights to recreate the first of the three-installment series and started producing the musical.

The 2002 movie, starring Andrew Lau and Alan Mak, revolves around two police officers tasked with their own secret missions inside a gang. It became very popular around Asia, producing a prequel and sequel both in 2003.

In 2006, the movie was remade in Hollywood as “The Departed” with A-listers Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson. The movie won the Oscar for best picture and several other awards.
