SEOUL, April 1 (Korea Bizwire) – The number of applicants acquiring a driver’s license for tow trucks, which is required to drive with a camping trailer, is on the increase in line with growing interest in outdoor activities.
The Road Traffic Authority reported an increasing number of tow truck license applicants from 7,994 people in 2017 to 11,519 people in 2021.
The number of successful applicants also rose from 5,148 people in 2017 to 7,132 people in 2021.
A driver’s license for small towing vehicles is classified as a type 1 special license in South Korea, allowing drivers to tow trailers that weigh 750 to 3,000 kilograms.
Trailers weighing less than 750 kilograms can be towed with a type 2 ordinary driver’s license or higher. Trailers weighing more than 3,000 kilograms require a driver’s license for large towing vehicles.
The Road Traffic Authority attributed the rising number of applicants to the growing popularity of camping and outdoor leisure activities.
As the number of campers exceeded the 7 million milestone in 2020, demand for camping caravans and cargo trailers that can be pulled with ordinary vehicles is on the rise.
