SEOUL, Feb. 24 (Korea Bizwire)POSCO Engineering & Construction Co., the construction arm of South Korea’s leading steelmaker POSCO, said Wednesday it had developed an apartment ventilation system designed to enable management of air quality for each of an apartment’s rooms and featuring a negative pressure function.

Existing apartment ventilation systems remove fine dust in a collective manner using a filter.

The newly-developed system, however, allows customized air quality management by installing air quality sensors and vents in each room.

With the ‘negative-pressure’ function to lower the internal air pressure, the system can prevent viruses and bacteria from spreading to other rooms if family members need to be quarantined apart from each other due to COVID-19.

To curb the spread of viruses, the new system enables separate ventilation for each room, while allowing users to select from an ‘air purification mode,’ ‘clean ventilation mode,’ and ‘intensive ventilation mode.’
