SEOUL, Dec. 29 (Korea Bizwire)A baby born from undocumented Vietnamese parents has survived after timely medical intervention.

The wife of a 25-year-old Vietnamese student of undocumented status gave birth to a son last September at Seoul National University Hospital through a cesarean section.

The baby was struggling from respiratory disorders and jaundice and was in an intensive care unit for 10 days.

The treatment cost 23 million won (US$19,400), which the husband had no way of paying.

KEB Hana Bank’s charity foundation, hearing about this incident from a local migrant support organization, donated 3 million won collected from Incheon International Airport and other subsidiaries.

The Vietnamese student was able to afford the medical bills after receiving donations from the foundation and discounts from the hospital.

The baby was transferred to a more affordable hospital for follow-up treatment, before being discharged in mid-October.

“I am so grateful to all of the people who have helped us throughout all this,” the Vietnamese student said.
