SEOUL, March 7 (Korea Bizwire) — Expensive, high-end bottles of soju that cost more than 10,000 won (US$8.15) are gaining popularity at home.
An ordinary bottle of Soju, a Korean distilled beverage made from grain, costs about 1,800 won.
Won Spirits Co., a soju brewery founded by singer Jay Park in April, announced that all of its 20,000 bottles of Won Soju had sold out.
Despite the high price of 14,900 won per bottle, consumers lined up in front of a pop-up store inside the Hyundai Seoul department store for the ‘open run’ on the high-end soju.
Industry sources said that the premium soju market has grown from 40 billion won in 2019 to 70 billion won in 2022.
Premium soju refers to Korean liquor made by distilling fermented rice and barley. High-priced, premium soju is known for its soft flavor and is less likely to cause hangovers.
