SEOUL, Nov. 10 (Korea Bizwire) – In response to the controversy surrounding the illegal distribution of the Netflix original series ‘Doona!’ and the JTBC drama ‘Strong Girl Nam-soon,’ professor Seo Kyung-duk from Sungshin Women’s University stated, “It’s time for the Korean government to take action.”

On Thursday, Suh expressed on social media that it’s not an exaggeration to claim that Chinese netizens illegally watch almost all of Korea’s streaming and TV content.

On China’s social media platform Douban, the viewer rating for the Netflix original series ‘Doona!’ stands at 6.6 out of a perfect score of 10, with an estimated 10,000 reviews.

Given that official Netflix service is unavailable in China, it can be assumed that Chinese netizens are watching the series illegally.

Suh remarked, “It has become a habit for Chinese netizens to illegally download and watch popular Korean content such as ‘The Glory,’ ‘Squid Game,’ and ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo.’ China is exploiting the portrait rights of Hallyu stars and incorporating the creation and sale of counterfeit goods into their profit models.”

He added, “Since this issue surpasses the capabilities of content producers or platform companies, it’s time for the Korean government to intervene. While creating good content is important, establishing a system where such content can be protected worldwide is equally crucial.”
