PYEONGCHANG, March 17 (Korea Bizwire) — Pyeongchang County in Gangwon Province said Tuesday that it has completed the construction of a TV White Space (TVWS)-based Internet of Things (IoT) service platform and is soon to begin operations for the safety and convenience of local residents.
The county has invested 140 million won (US$123,800) to set up public Wi-Fi stations and security cameras using cutting-edge information and communications technology in eight remote locations such as mountains and walkways where setting up a wired network is difficult.
The project enables video streaming at Mount Jangam, a popular tourist destination for paragliding, allowing netizens to view the beautiful landscape of the mountain online.
It also offers real-time information on wind speed and direction, allowing firefighters and paragliders alike to monitor the spread of a wildfire or suitability for a flight.
