PYEONGTAEK, Dec.2 (Korea Bizwire)The city of Pyeongtaek announced that it will be developing a manual outlining how to deal with the U.S. army’s imports of anthrax as the American military is moving its base to Pyeongtaek in 2016.

Gong Jae-gwang, the mayor of Pyeongtaek, announced that the city will make an ‘anthrax manual’ as soon as the results of the investigation on the process of importing anthrax and disposing it are revealed.

The manual will be developed after the city council, civic groups and local governors discuss the matter.

Governor Kim Seung-woo, who is also the head of the special task force on the migration of the U.S. military base, strongly called for countermeasures. “With the U.S. military base bringing anthrax into Pyeongtaek, citizens’ lives and health are at risk.”

The U.S. Department of Defense announced that anthrax was imported into Korea via the American military base in Osan last April, and a Korea-U.S. joint investigation team is currently looking into anthrax import and disposal processes.
