SEOUL, Jan. 6 (Korea Bizwire)Thus far, users have had to go through a complex process to cancel services subscribed to through in-app payments on Apple’s App Store. From now on, however, it will be possible to cancel such services simply with one click.

The Korea Communications Commission (KCC), South Korea’s telecommunications regulator, said Wednesday it had recommended that the Apple App Store and 13 other subscription service apps prepare an in-app payment cancellation function within their apps.

As a result of an analysis of seven app-based subscription services offered through the App Store, the KCC found that it was simple to use in-app payment services, but cancellation within apps was almost impossible.

For those who use these services through their iPhone, it took five steps on the device outside the app to cancel the subscription services.

Against this backdrop, the KCC recommended that Apple create a function that would make it easier for users to cancel subscription services within the app, as well as to inform app operators of these changes.

For app developers, the regulator recommended that they provide a cancellation function within apps, as well as make it easier for users to know the cancellation process regardless of payment type.
