SEOUL, March 2 (Korea Bizwire) – Renault Samsung Motors Co., the local unit of French automaker Renault S.A., said Wednesday that it has started selling the SM6, hoping to reclaim its fame in the mid-size sedan market in South Korea.
The SM6 is a locally adjusted version of the Talisman, which was launched in France last year. This marked the sixth vehicle model in Renault Samsung’s lineup being sold in the Korean market.
Renault Samsung said that it has received over 11,000 preorders for the SM6 since earlier last month and its official launch started on Monday, with vehicles being delivered to customers.
“The SM6, known for its sensual designs, innovative technology with emotional appeal and dynamic driving performance, is drawing attention that it could possibly emerge as an alternative that exceeds the fame of our first-generation SM5 (in the Korean market),” the company said.
The SM6 is equipped with many advanced features intended to enhance convenience, some of which are rarely seen in mid-size sedans.
Drivers can choose diverse driving modes, including sports, comfort and eco, while the stop-and-start function that prevents idling when the car stops is applied to all trims. The heads-up display projecting driving information on the windshield and all-around parking sensors are also available.
It also boasts the largest cabin space among same-class models that could possibly compete with large-size sedans, the company said.
Renault Samsung expects to sell over 50,000 units of the SM6 by the end of this year, which it hopes will boost the company’s overall domestic sales to the third largest among carmakers selling vehicles in Korea.’
