SEOUL, April 22 (Korea Bizwire)Long-term rental cars that do not require vehicle management are gaining popularity as the trend of finding services that maximize convenience is growing in status.

The portion of individual users of Lotte Rent-a-Car, which stood at only 21.7 percent in 2014, reached 40.6 percent in 2019, nearly doubling over five years.

As such, long-term rental car companies are aggressively seeking to attract individual customers by launching services that competitively maximize convenience.

In the case of Lotte Rent-a-Car, the company has been receiving favorable reviews for introducing a service that incorporates Internet of Things (IoT) technology to implement real-time vehicle management regardless of time or place.

The service is a new concept vehicle management service that applies IoT technology to existing long-term rental car products to check vehicle status in real time and inform the company if maintenance is needed.

Unlike existing vehicle maintenance plans, which require customers to visit a repair shop in person, the company minimized face-to-face contact by deploying a mechanic at a designated time and place.

In particular, the proportion of non-Seoul area customers reached 45.8 percent, indicating that they actively use door-to-door maintenance services that come to places where it is difficult to find maintenance centers.

“Consumption patterns in which consumers willingly invest in services that reduce inconvenience are also spreading in high-interest product markets such as automobiles,” said an official at Lotte Rental, the parent company of Lotte Rent-a-Car.
