SEOUL, Oct. 25 (Korea Bizwire)Rental stations for Seoul’s public bike service, dubbed Ttaereungyi in Korean, are being removed due to complaints from local residents.

According to the data compiled by the city government, 65 of 95 rental stations that were removed from January to September last year were closed due to complaints.

A total of 19 stations were closed for blocking pedestrian walkways following the start of construction in the area and 11 stations were closed for failing to meet certain requirements.

Residents living in expensive apartment complexes tend to dislike having rental stations nearby, fearful that they would lead to a decline in property values.

The problem is that it’s hard to set up a new rental station nearby once the previous station is taken down.

The total number of rental stations reached 2,600 last year, however, and areas that meet the requirements for a new station are becoming few and far between.
