Retail, Film and Finance Industries to Celebrate Mickey Mouse’s Birthday

SEOUL, Nov. 17 (Korea Bizwire) — A number of events are scheduled in celebration of the popular Disney character Mickey Mouse’s 89th birthday this Saturday.

To celebrate the anniversary, companies from different sectors are launching a wave of promotions, with the Walt Disney Company Korea taking the lead by setting up a photo op area called ‘Chair of Love’ at N Seoul Tower, which will be open throughout November.

N Seoul Tower is offering 30 percent off tickets for visitors who upload pictures of themselves in the photo op area on social media, as well as additional discounts at nearby restaurants and gift shops.

Since his introduction in 1928 in black and white films, Mickey Mouse has enjoyed widespread popularity around the world with millions of fans and an entire industry of products modeled after his likeness ranging from clothes and interior design products to luxury collaboration items.

Shinsegae is joining the trend, having launched ‘Disney Super Shop’, a four-day event at Starfield Hanam where over 100 types of Mickey Mouse-inspired items will be on sale.

Visitors to Disney Super Shop over the weekend will receive a free Mickey or Minnie Mouse notebook in return for saying, ‘Happy Birthday, Mickey.”

A lucky 500 people who upload pictures of themselves visiting the shop on Instagram with the hashtag ‘Disney’ or ‘Supershop’ in Korean will also be given cell phone accessories as a complimentary gift.

Cinema chain CGV is holding Disney Cinema, a special film festival dedicated to Disney animation films from November 16 to 26 at seven locations across the country.

During the festival, 20 popular Disney films will be played, including the 3D version of classics such as Beauty and the Beast and the Lion King.

SC Cheil Bank, which has previously released Disney character-inspired banking products, will join other companies in celebrating Mickey Mouse’s birthday through a special event where customers who upload pictures of their Disney check cards on the bank’s Facebook page will have the chance tro win ‘Disney Mickey and Minnie’s Date’ emoticons.

Gmarket is also celebrating the birthday of one of the most well-known characters in the world for the second consecutive year by holding special promotions on its Disney brand mall page.
