SEOUL, Oct. 8 (Korea Bizwire)As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to drag on, retailers are replacing certain recruiting processes with online examinations.

GS Retail Co. is carrying out an artificial intelligence (AI)-based competency test to recruit candidates who have passed the first screening. First introduced late last year, the examination combines an aptitude test with an interview held online.

7-Eleven, for the first time this year, will hold job interviews on a metaverse platform Gather Town. Job applicants will meet in a virtual interviewing space created in Gather Town where they will engage in a virtual interview through their avatars.

Some retailers have also held recruiting seminars and orientation sessions online. BGF Retail Co. held an online recruiting exhibition last month on Gather Town and held a live stream broadcast on YouTube for an IT recruiting seminar.

“We can’t sit face-to-face with the job applicants because of the pandemic, but some have said that online tests are fairer,” an industry official said.
