SEOUL, Korea, April 23, 2014 (Korea Bizwire) – From now on, pedestrians in Seoul can find their ways to their destinations through a smartphone application while walking.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that it would offer a route planner app for the pedestrians in the capital city to make it easy to find their ways from April 23. After testing the app in Seoul, the ministry will expand the service to the whole country later.

Until now, navigation apps have been mainly for drivers since there was no detailed map for people on foot indicating secondary traffic features such as narrow alleys, overpasses, stairways and underpasses.
Jointly developed with the Engineering College of Seoul National University, the app will contain a high-definition map with detailed information on sidewalks, bicycle ways, crosswalks, overpasses and underpasses which the pedestrians can take through the guide of the app.
The ministry will roll out the app for Android users first and later it will introduce the same app for iOS users. An official at the ministry said, “By using the detailed road map for pedestrians, app developers can come up with various contents for kids, disabled people and the elderly for their traffic safety.”
