SUWON, Korea, Dec 16 (Korea Bizwire) – The Rural Development Administration said on December 15 that it would make available an educational video for dog owners on how to properly care for pet dogs as a way to reduce the incidence of abandoned pets.
The number of abandoned pets has steadily increased for the past several years. In 2012, the number of abandoned dogs was 59,168, accounting for about 60 percent of all abandonment cases.
The video recently released is divided into four parts: disease prevention, basic caring, feeding, and bathroom training. The section on disease prevention contains tips on vaccines to get and ways to prevent pet parasites. The part on basic caring includes tips on how to clean eyes, fur, claws, and teeth.
In the part on feeding, there are mentions of foods to avoid and how to feed nutritious meals. Finally the section on bathroom training introduces training methods such as those using pet potty pads or fences.
Kim Jae-hwan, RDA manager responsible for animal nutrition who participated in creating the video, said, “We at the Rural Development Administration will provide more information on pet animals, as well as farm animals, as more people adopt pets and the society’s interest in pets heightens.” The video is available on the Naver portal site, as well as on the Rural Development Administration website on www.rda.go.kr.
