S. Korea Develops Pet Food Using Locally-grown Plants

NAJU, May 13 (Korea Bizwire)The Jeonnam Agricultural Research and Extension Service announced Tuesday the development of two new pet food products made from locally-grown loquat leaves and kiwis that help pets to stay healthy.

Also announced was a new pet food made from kiwis that helps prevent allergies.

Pet food with 0.2 percent kiwi content resulted in an alleviation of skin rash and regeneration of animal fur. The agency plans to conduct field tests and submit patent applications for the two new pet foods by the end of this year.

The new products are expected to help pets prevent obesity and skin disease, a major concern among pet owners.

The agency expects the new products to compete with global manufacturers, which collectively own 70 percent of South Korea’s pet food market.
