SEOUL, Jan. 18 (Korea Bizwire)The agriculture ministry said Tuesday it will introduce the embryos of Jersey cows to boost the production of dairy products using domestically produced milk.

Jersey cows, which are nicknamed “brown milk cows,” produce small amounts of milk but with high protein and fat content, offering advantages in the production of dairy products such as cheese and butter.

Government officials said that Jersey cows can adapt well to high temperatures, thus ensuring easier breeding management during the summer, while contributing to the reduction of production costs for dairy farms.

To expand the breeding of Jersey cows, the miniatry plans to import about 230 female embryos starting this year.

In the past, domestic dairy farms have primarily raised Holstein cows, which have a high milk output.
