SEOUL, Feb. 14 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea’s industry ministry said Wednesday it has hosted a roundtable to promote its carbon-free vision with key partners on the margins of the International Energy Agency (IEA) meeting.
The carbon-free energy roundtable, inviting “like-minded” nations, including Britain, Canada and Japan, was held in Paris on Tuesday (France time) to discuss ways to utilize clean energy sources, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
President Yoon Suk Yeol earlier floated the concept of the carbon-free energy initiative during his keynote speech at the United Nations General Assembly in September last year.
The ministry said that the participants highlighted the importance of cooperation between the public and private sectors.
“As South Korea depends on exports, we have set up plans to reduce carbon in areas with high emissions,” Second Vice Industry Minister Choe Nam-ho told Yonhap News Agency following the meeting.
“The role of the carbon-free alliance is crucial, as there needs to be more discussion from the private sector,” Choe added, noting the government is making proactive efforts to diversify the energy portfolio.
