SEOUL, Dec. 18 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea replaced England to rank second at the world box office for “Bohemian Rhapsody”, a biopic based on the true story of Freddie Mercury and Queen.
20th Century Fox Korea, the distributor of the film, revealed that South Korean sales reached $61.1 million as of Monday, exceeding England’s $58.6 million in sales.
“This is a reflection of so many South Koreans coming back to the theater to watch the film multiple times, and the impact that Queen has brought to Korean society and culture,” they said.
The North American market topped the world box office after accumulating $180.4 million in sales as of Sunday.
The movie topped South Korean charts four times after beating “Default”, a South Korean movie, last week, adding 439,472 more spectators to the record over the weekend.
The movie has attracted 7.9 million viewers so far and is expected to reach 8 million viewers by today.
