SEJONG, Jun. 12 (Korea Bizwire)The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to organize the Construction Information System Innovation Task Force on Wednesday to introduce a new service that uses augmented reality (AR) technology to provide information on various buildings to the public.

The task force will be headed by Kim Sang-mun, a construction policy officer at the ministry, comprised of some 30 experts from the Architecture and Urban Research Institute, Korea Land and Housing Corporation, Korea Appraisal Board, and the Korea Institute of Registered Architects.

One of the task force’s major objectives is the development of an AR-based search portal for buildings.

The new search engine will allow users to access various safety and useful information on buildings through smartphones.

For instance, a citizen looking for a public restroom can point their smartphone towards nearby buildings to get various types of information, including restroom availability.

The task force also plans to develop a ‘construction hub’ that offers easy access to various public services related to construction.

The hub will use big data technology to provide real-time information on disaster prevention and building conditions.

The task force will also discuss the possibility of replacing the construction administration system, currently divided among 245 local public institutions, with a cloud-based integrated management system.

The new system will exclude Active X and other unnecessary programs that undermine easy access.

“In order to provide improved public services for various construction projects, a fundamental overhaul of the management system is critical,” said Kim Sang-mun.

“Once the task force delivers a new blueprint for the system, it will be taken into consideration along with additional comments from various experts.”
