SEOUL, Aug. 11 (Korea Bizwire)Pulse diagnosis data from oriental medicine will be developed and managed as national standard data, South Korea’s standard-setting agency said Tuesday.

The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) announced that it had designated a national reference standard data center for three areas, including pulse waves, the balance ability of Koreans according to gender and age and the properties of textile materials.

A reference standard is standard data that is certified by the state on the basis of expert analysis and evaluation of the measured data and information produced during R&D and industrial activities.

The KATS plans to establish the reference standard for the type of pulse wave and the results of the diagnosis that renowned oriental medicine doctors make for 10,000 patients per year. This reference standard will be classified by age, gender and disease.

The reference standard can be used for the development of pulse diagnosis products and educational programs and the creation of a customized oriental medicine service platform for personal health diagnosis.

The agency will also establish a reference standard concerning the balance ability of Koreans by age and gender.

This reference standard will be used for the early detection of developmental problems among children and the development of elderly rehabilitation programs.

The KATS also intends to carry out a 24-item measurement process to create a reference standard for the property of textile materials that determines the characteristics of fabrics, including mass and thickness.
