SEOUL, Dec. 19 (Yonhap) — South Korea’s premium fisheries export brand, K-Fish, will debut in a trade fair in China as part of an ongoing effort to promote quality products in the vast market, the oceans ministry said Tuesday.
K-Fish is the national fisheries brand of selected products in 11 categories, including dried laver, tuna and abalone. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has registered its trademark rights in 36 countries, including China, the United States, Japan and Europe.
The ministry said it will introduce various seafood products under the label ina trade fair in Shanghai on Wednesday, presenting a second overseas road show following one held in Los Angeles last month.
On the sidelines of the event, the ministry will hold promotional events of Korean seafood products at two Walmart stores in Shanghai throughout this week.
“We expect the event will help advertise quality South Korean seafood products to Chinese consumers,” said No Jin-kwan, a ministry official. “We plan to develop a wide range of K-Fish products, including fresh, frozen and processed foods, to appeal to Chinese consumers.”
South Korea exported US$386 million worth of seafood to China last year, making it the second-largest market following Japan.
