SEOUL, March 8 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Science and ICT announced Sunday that it will provide high-performance computing resources to South Korean businesses and agencies in need of artificial intelligence (AI) development.
High-performance computing resources are capable of processing large amounts of data at high speeds, accelerating the process of AI development.
Procuring these resources is costly, and out of the reach of many startups, universities, or other institutions.
In response, the government plans to provide 30.6 petaflops of data processing to a total of 1,000 businesses and institutions.
Flops refers to a single calculation of addition per second, and one petaflop is equal to the calculation of one quadrillion additions per second.
This year, the ministry has designated Naver Cloud as a supplier of high-performance computing resources.
All selected businesses and institutions will be able to sign up for the amount of computing resources they need, which may be adjusted in accordance with monthly usage.
