SEOUL, Dec. 2 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea’s oceans ministry said Monday that it plans to implement an enhanced crackdown on Chinese boats fishing illegally in the West Sea this week in cooperation with the Coast Guard.
The country will work to round up boats fishing or operating illegally in South Korea’s Exclusive Economic Zone from Tuesday to Thursday, according to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
During the operation, authorities will focus on cracking down on Chinese fishing boats engaging in unauthorized fishing activities or submitting false reports about their catch.
The ministry added that it will take strong actions against fishing boats that violently resist lawful inspections.
“We will continue to work closely with related organizations to protect the maritime resources in our waters and enforce order among Chinese fishing boats through stern crackdowns,” Oceans Minister Kang Do-hyung said.
