S. Korean Drama ‘SKY Castle’ Massively Popular in China

SEOUL, Jan. 18 (Korea Bizwire)According to a recent online survey of 843 Chinese living in Qingdao, 59.9 percent of the respondents had either seen the drama “SKY Castle” or planned to see it in the future.

The results were published in a local newspaper.

While the JTBC drama, which is based on college entrance exams, continues to be a hit, there are more female viewers (67.3 percent) than male viewers (32.7 percent).

Age wise, people in their 20s form the largest viewing group, followed by teenagers and those in their 30s.

Such popularity is due to the drama’s realistic plot. The college entrance exams depicted in the drama are similar to those in China.

The resemblance appeared highly appealing to Chinese viewers and stimulated sympathy among many.

The enthusiasm for education in China is as high as that of South Korea. There has even been a report that Chinese parents are bent on paying for private education.
