SEOUL, April 27 (Korea Bizwire)The South Korean government is pushing for a new international standard based on the country’s quarantine practices to share its experiences with the world.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced Sunday that it will compile all procedures and methods used to fight the coronavirus to create a K-Epidemic Prevention Model and propose it to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

The K-Epidemic Prevention Model covers all phases of pandemic control, ranging from diagnosis, epidemiologic survey and tracking, quarantine and treatment.

Operative standards for drive-thru and walk-thru clinics, and ad hoc treatment centers will also be included.

This proposal will be submitted for review by world experts before it becomes an international standard.

The RT-PCR, a method to test for the coronavirus, passed the Draft International Standard (DIS) voting procedures last February, and awaits final enactment in November.

Another proposal for drive-thru clinics has also been submitted to the ISO.

This time, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ministry of Health, experts who have proposed the idea of a designated clinics, and manufacturers of the test kit will form a consortium to carry out the project.

The consortium will also work with the Task Force for International Cooperation on COVID-19, an inter-ministerial agency spearheaded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to better promote the K-Epidemic Prevention Model.

Last Thursday, ISO’s Asian branch showed interest in the K-Epidemic Prevention Model, sharing related information in a video conference.
